Montanverde (before)
Built between 1806 & 1812, Montanverde was the residence of Major George Peter (1779 - 1861). In 1848 Major Peter held a political rally to support Zachary Taylor. Congressman Abraham Lincoln attended the event and spent the night in the downstairs west wing room, still referred to as the Lincoln Room.

Montanverde is designated on the Montgomery Master Plan for Historic Preservation and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Listed endangered by Preservation Maryland in 2013, the house was rehabilitated and won a historic preservation
award from Montgomery Preservation Inc. in 2015.
