TJT Architects, was founded in 1991 by Thomas J. Taltavull. He graduated with a master of architecture degree from the Catholic University of America in 1987. Mr. Taltavull has over 25 years of experience in architectural design, planning, and historic preservation, with an emphasis on architectural technology, building codes and renovation of existing structures. He has experience in a wide variety of building types, including custom residential, public/governmental, commercial office, parks and recreation, veterinary and dental / medical office.
Mr. Taltavull is recognized for his work in the historic preservation field in Maryland. In his preservation work, Mr. Taltavull has become familiar with a wide variety of historic and unusual construction materials and techniques. He is well-versed in the proper methods for repair and restoration of wood, brick, concrete, and a wide variety of other materials. He is expert at the application of modern building codes to historic structures, designing necessary modifications to achieve safety and comply with the code while preserving the important, character-defining elements essential to the historic integrity of the building. In the field of historic preservation planning, Mr. Taltavull has field measured, documented, and completed numerous historic building analysis reports. He is listed as an approved architect with the Montgomery County, the Prince George's County and State of Maryland Historic Preservation Offices.
Mr. Taltavull is a past board member of the Historic Medley District, a nonprofit Maryland preservation organization. He is licensed to practice architecture in the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia.
